Search back underway for missing fishermen

Searchers have resumed looking for two fishermen still missing after their companion drowned in rough seas at the river mouth of Port Waikato.

The trio were net fishing on Monday when they were swept out to sea.

One man, 42, was eventually dragged from the water but could not be revived.

Sunset Beach lifeguard service president Martin Beattie told Morning Report the three men were not wearing lifejackets.

He says his group often rescues fishermen from the river mouth and estuary who were not wearing lifejackets.

Mr Beattie says locals would never fish in the area and usually advise visitors to stay away.
