Police to put focus on cellphone use while driving

8:14 pm on 25 October 2011

Police have launched a 12-day campaign aimed at people using cell phones while driving.

The campaign coincides with the second anniversary of the legislation banning drivers from texting and handling cell phones while they are at the wheel.

More than 15,000 offence notices have been issued since the law came into force, with more being issued in 2011 than in 2010.

Police believe people could have reverted to their old habits now that the initial publicity surrounding the law has died down.
