A man sentenced to death in America for the 1993 murders of three eight-year-old boys is currently in New Zealand visiting Sir Peter Jackson.

The government granted Damian Echols a temporary visa saying a character waiver was supplied in support of the application, which specified Damian Echols will meet the film director.

Echols and two others, known as the West Memphis Three, served 18 years in prison for murder, but were released in August after new DNA evidence cast doubt over their convictions.

In August, Sir Peter's manager said he was funding investigations to clear their names.
