The Australian netball team beat the Silver Ferns by 51-44 on Wednesday night in Adelaide to level the Constellation Cup series at 2-2.

New Zealand led until the end of the third quarter when the Diamonds tied the scores at 36-36, then scored seven unanswered goals. Australia won the final quarter 15-8.

Veteran Australian goal shooter Catherine Cox scored 34 from 42 attempts.

Irene van Dyk sat out the match.

Silver Ferns coach Wai Taumaunu defended her decision not to play van Dyk, saying it was never her intention to rest the star shooter to give Catherine Latu a chance. Latu scored 27 from 31 attempts.

The final Test will be played in Melbourne on Sunday.
