Opo statue back in one piece

A statue of Opo the dolphin is back in one piece again in Hokianga after an attack by vandals.

The head of the boy riding the dolphin was broken off and found in two pieces early on Thursday morning.

David Broad, who works at the Opononi Takeaways near the statue, say a handyman has repaired the statue and fitted a temporary neck brace.

The statue of Opo and the boy was erected in 1955 as a memorial to the friendly dolphin which spent that summer playing with people on the beach, where he later died.
