Capital and Coast District Health Board has installed a new multi-million-dollar machine for treating cancer.
Health Minister Tony Ryall says the radiotherapy linear accelerator is the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere.
Mr Ryall says the machine is so precise it can deliver beams of radiation between patients' breaths, so they are completely still when it fires.
He says the accelerator is one of 10 set up around the country to meet the Government's target of treating all cancer patients with a wait of four weeks or less.
