RNZB plans China tour

Updated at 1:45 pm on 1 November 2011

The Royal New Zealand Ballet has opened its biggest production yet, Sleeping Beauty, and may take it overseas next year.

The ballet classic, set to Tchaikovsky's score, opened in Wellington on Friday to capacity houses and will tour the rest of the country over the next month.

The managing director of the company, Amanda Skoog, says the Royal New Zealand Ballet's recent success in London with a contemporary production is making it easier to tour other productions.

She says China is interested in Sleeping Beauty, and the company may tour it there as early as 2012.
