None hurt when train hits bus at level crossing

A freight train collided with a bus on a level crossing at Paekakariki on the Kapiti Coast late on Monday night.

The Fire Service says no one was trapped or injured; all seven people on board the bus got off safely before the collision. The train driver is shaken but is unhurt.

Police say the collision happened at about 10.30pm at the intersection of Beach Road and State Highway 1. They say the bus had got stuck and was stationary when it was hit.

People wanting to get in or out of Paekakariki had to use Ames St until the crossing was cleared at about 2.30am.
