Wages are still growing at a slower pace than the cost of living.
Statistics New Zealand's Labour Cost Index shows salary and wage rates rose 2% in the year to the end of September.
The cost of living, measured by inflation, rose 4.6%.
Official figures show the Labour Cost Index rose 0.6% in the September quarter compared with the previous quarter.
The quarterly employment survey, also out on Tuesday, shows private-sector wages increased 1.3% in the September quarter, compared with the previous three months.
