Eight sailings of Cook Strait ferry Aratere have been cancelled after the ship ran into trouble during a crossing to Wellington on Monday night.
The ferry experienced reduced power in Tory Channel before a pipe fractured, spraying fuel vapour.
General manager for Interislander general manager Thomas Davis says the cause is being investigated.
The cancelled sailings are:
From Wellington - Tuesday sailings at 6.05am, 2.05 pm, 10.05 pm and Wednesday's sailing at 6.05 am.
From Picton - Tuesday's sailings at 10.05 am, 6.25 pm and Wednesday's sailings at 2.05 am and 10.05 am.
The Aratere was recently refurbished but in October had to be towed back to port following engine problems.
Prior to that, its return to service was delayed when it was found it needed a new power management system.
