A big top circus from Belgium, a punk accordian player from Finland and the world premiere of a New Zealand opera are among the acts in next year's International Arts Festival.

The programme for the 14th International Arts Festival, which runs from 24 February - 18 March, has been announced in Wellington.

Artistic director Lissa Twomey says 900 artists from 31 countries will perform more than 300 shows.

She says New Zealand content makes up one fifth of the programme.

One such act is the Conch Theatre's world production of Masi, a cross cultural love story set in Wellington.

Executive director Sue Paterson says cheap tickets are available for all the big shows at the festival as well as a range of free performances.
