Drink driving ad goes viral

8:56 am on 4 November 2011

An anti-drink driving advertisement is set to break through the one million viewer mark on Youtube.

The television ad has gone viral in 12 days, with more than 900,000 viewing on Youtube, thousands of mentions on social media and an auction for charity on TradeMe.

The Transport Agency says the ad is much more popular than they believed it would be.

But the agency says the real measure of the campaign's success is if young drivers, men in particular, speak up and stop friends driving after drinking.

Every year, about 200 people aged between 16 - 24 are seriously injured or killed in alcohol related crashes.
