More women taking up top jobs

A national recruiting firm says the earthquakes in Christchurch have led to more women being placed in high posts in the financial sector.

Hays New Zealand says a lot of professionals in the sector have left the city for jobs elsewhere in New Zealand or overseas.

Managing director Jason Walker says in some cases the women taking up these jobs are the partners of construction professionals moving in for the city's rebuild.

In other cases, women already working in financial busineses have been promoted to fill the roles of the men who left.

The jobs involved are chartered accountants, business analysts and financial managers.
