Gisborne police have charged a 30-year-old gang associate after a rifle was fired during a fight between rival gang members in the city early on Sunday morning.
The man has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.
Police say further charges are likely to be laid against the man and it's also expected further arrests will be made.
It is believed one shot was fired and police say it is fortunate no one was hit.
The incident, which involved about 15 gang members and associates,
led to a series of raids by armed police on houses in Gisborne on Sunday.
