6:55 am on 7 November 2011

Police in Gisborne say they are still searching for two people in relation to a firearms incident in the early hours of Sunday morning.

They say a rifle was fired in Cobden Street near the city centre during a fight involving 15 members and associates of two rival gangs.

Police say a lot of people were nearby and it was fortunate no one was hurt.

A 30-year-old gang associate has been arrested and bailed to appear in court on Wednesday charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

Police say they know the identities of the other people they are looking for.

The incident led to a series of swoops by armed officers in Gisborne on Sunday.

A cordon on part of Cobden Street was lifted on Sunday afternoon.
