Show week offers light relief for quake-hit Canterbury

10:05 am on 7 November 2011

Organisers of the annual Canterbury Cup and Show say they are expecting crowds to flock to the region, despite damage to the venue from the February earthquake.

Addington Raceway's public stand was destroyed following the earthquake.

Temporary infrastructure has been erected for this week's event.

Raceway chief executive Shane Gloury says most people will agree that the temporary facility is better than what it replaced.

He says although the number of overseas visitors will be down this year, it will still be a great time for Cantabrians to show their resilience and forget the horrors of the last year.
