Employers wanting to get the best from young Pacific employees are being advised to recognise their cultural values and involve their families in resolving work problems.
The advice is in a report from the Equal Employment Opportunities Trust and the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs.
It draws on interviews with young workers and their managers in a range of industries.
Trust chief executive Philippa Read says the report is a response to employers asking how they can make more of the talents of their young Pacific workers.
It concludes employers need to develop career paths for them that match their aspirations and abilities.
