A woman who left the body of her newborn baby in a creek in rural Auckland has been sentenced to 12 months of intensive supervision.
Permanent name suppression was granted when she appeared in Papakura District Court on Friday morning.
The baby girl was found in a red plastic bag beneath a culvert in Ardmore in July, after a tip-off.
A post-mortem confirmed she was born at least five weeks prematurely.
Defence lawyer Chris Wilkinson-Smith says the sentence imposed requires his client to regularly see a psychologist.
