Police investigating the suspicious death of a 13-year-old Christchurch girl say they have a new lead.

Jade Bayliss' body was found inside her burnt out Somerfield home last Thursday. She had been assaulted.

Police revealed on Sunday that the schoolgirl's wallet was found in the rooftop carpark of Riccarton Mall on the afternoon she died.

Police say it's unlikely she would have visited the mall herself and they are trawling through security camera footage from the mall in the search for clues as to how it got there.

Two men have been arrested in relation to the case however the police are refusing to say what they've been charged with.

Police have received several calls about a green Mitsubishi Diamante station wagon belonging to one of the arrested men and have interviewed employees of a lawn mowing business who visited Jade Bayliss' home just hours before it was set alight.

Forensic examination work at the scene of the homicide is expected to continue until Tuesday.
