Defence forum to consider crisis response

3:25 pm on 15 November 2011

The defence industry is holding its annual forum in Wellington.

Some 300 representatives from the defence industry and Defence Force in New Zealand, along with their overseas equivalents, are attending the forum, which began on Tuesday.

Opening speakers included the Chair of the New Zealand Defence Industry Association, Mike Wardlaw, Defence Minister Wayne Mapp, and Chief of Defence Lieutenant General Rhys Jones

This year's theme is Crisis Response Management. Members of the New Zealand Defence Force will be discussing their experience of the Christchurch earthquakes and the grounding of the container ship Rena.

During the two-day forum, there will also be trade displays by defence industry companies and talks on the progress and aims of the 2010 Defence White Paper and about selling into the US federal government.
