A former All Black has appeared in Wellington District Court charged with assault.
The man, whose name has been suppressed, is also facing several other charges including assaulting a female, resisting police and possession of cannabis.
He has been remanded on bail to reappear in court next month.
Judge Bruce Davidson said he was granting interim name suppression on the basis of medical information which had been placed before the court.
