Ferry crossings cancelled due to cable failure

Kiwirail says two Interislander ferry crossings scheduled for Friday have been cancelled.

The company says the failure of a cable on the linkspan which connects Wellington's port to the Interislander's rail ships is to blame.

Kiwirail says Centreport is working hard to resolve the problem as quickly as possible so it can load and unload the ships.

It says a freight-only crossing by the Aratere at 6.05am on Friday has been cancelled, as has the vessel's 10.05am return trip from Picton.

The 170 passengers scheduled to board the sailing from Picton have been rebooked.
