Police in Christchurch say they are helping to find permanent accomodation for the family of schoolgirl Jade Bayliss, who was killed last week.

The body of the 13-year-old Cashmere High School pupil was found dead in her burnt out house in the suburb of Somerfield last Thursday.

Reports have emerged that her family has been struggling to find somewhere to live since the fire destroyed their home.

A police spokesperson says they received several offers on Friday of accommodation for the family.

Police are still gathering evidence at the Barrington Street property but expect to be finished by the end of Friday.

Jeremy McLaughlin has been charged with the teenager's murder, arson and burglary.

The 13-year-old's funeral will be held in Christchurch on Sunday.
