An 11-year-old girl is in a stable condition in hospital after being accidentally left behind on a school hiking trip when she fell down a bank.
The Maori immersion school pupil fell 11 metres down the bank at Te Reinga north of Wairoa on Wednesday afternoon.
No one realised she was missing until the group got back to Wairoa.
When the girl was found about two hours later she was flown to Hawke's Bay Hospital.
A hospital spokesperson says she has been transferred from the high dependency unit to the children's ward and is in a stable condition.
