Rural fire still burning

6:09 am on 22 November 2011

Fire crews will resume trying to bring a rural fire at Horeke, in Hokianga, under control on Tuesday morning.

About 300 acres of pine forest were burned on Monday. Firefighters have been keeping an eye on the fire overnight.

The Fire Service says it was not burning as fiercely as it had been earlier in the day, when it was considered out of control.

No properties have been damaged, but some were evacuated for a short time as a precaution.
