A man has appeared in court in Whangarei charged with stealing dozens of beehives.
Justin Howes, 21, is charged with stealing hives worth $34,000 from two apiarists last month.
Police allege he took 37 hives from one location and 33 from another site near Kerikeri.
Howes was remanded at large to appear in court again next month.
Northland beekeepers have been reporting large numbers of hives disappearing since September.
