Showjumping goes on despite suspicious blazes

7:38 am on 25 November 2011

The Wellington showjumping championships will go ahead at Foxton racecourse this weekend despite some facilities being destroyed by three suspicious fires in the past week.

Two stable buildings and a grandstand have been torched at the racecourse in the Horowhenua town.

One of the stable blocks burnt to the ground and the grandstand was extensively damaged.

The fires are being treated as suspicious and police are investigating.

A racecourse committee will decide what to rebuild once an insurance assessment is complete.

Foxton hosts its next race meeting in March.
