Appeal for help over security guard's death

7:36 pm on 28 November 2011

Police investigating the death of a security guard in West Auckland say they have no leads to go on.

Fifteen officers are working on the case following the discovery of Charanpreet Dhaliwal's body by colleagues at a construction site on 18 November.

Detectives began a homicide investigation after a coroner found that the 22-year-old's head injuries were caused by an assault.

They are reviewing security camera footage from businesses and streets that adjoin the Lincoln Road-North Western Motorway site.

However, police say they have no leads and are appealing to the public for help. They are keeping an open mind as to whether a weapon was used in the attack.

Police say Mr Dhaliwal's body was released to the Sikh community and family members on Monday for a ceremony and will be returned to India later in the week.
