The Liquor Licensing Authority is hearing several objections against a bottlestore in Cannons Creek in Porirua being given a new licence.
Residents want Fantame liquorstore gone or its hours restricted.
About 200 people marched in central Porirua to the District Court building before the hearing began.
Ten people, including the principal of an adjacent primary school, will present their objections.
A spokesperson says smashed bottles and drunk people loitering in the area during school hours are a concern.
The authority will rule on an application against renewal of the licence as well as suspension of an off-licence and manager's certificate.
