No job losses with court closures, says ministry

The Ministry of Justice says there have been no job losses as a result of the closure of six district court buildings considered to be at risk from earthquakes.

Court buildings in Upper Hutt, Masterton, Fielding, Rangiora, Oamaru and Balclutha were closed on Thursday and could be out of operation for a year while strengthening work is carried out.

The main union for court workers, the Public Service Association, had raised concern the closures could result in job cuts.

However, the ministry says no one will lose their job because of the closures.
