Drivers heading north out of Wellington are facing major delays after a crash on State Highway Two, south of Petone on Monday.
Traffic is backed up to Hobson Street on the motorway northbound from Wellington, and on the Ngauranga Gorge until Newlands, and to the Ngaio lights on the Hutt Road.
A witness at the scene says a van and a ute collided.
The vehicles have been cleared but it will take a while before traffic runs smoothly again, a transport agency spokesperson says.
