Domestic tourism spending recovering

Domestic travel in New Zealand is now rising after a slump last year that saw many people stay at home.

A survey by the Ministry of Economic Development found domestic travel has increased by 10% over the previous year.

The biggest increase came from business travel, with $3.1 billion spent- up 21% on 2010.

More people visited friends and spent$2.7 billion on travel, an increase of nearly 12% on the previous year.

The ministry says the survey results show a recovery from last year's difficult economic times.
