A Tauranga man has appeared in court charged with assault in relation to a suspicious death in the city.
A 50-year-old man died in Fourth Avenue on Tuesday night and a post-mortem is being carried out on him today in Auckland.
The accused, aged 43, has been granted interim name suppression until Friday evening.
Police say they are focusing on identifying and interviewing potential witnesses, together with a canvass of the area and a scene examination by ESR scientists.
Police want to talk to anyone who may have been in the Fourth Avenue area between 6pm and 10pm on Tuesday.
