Warnings that New Zealand could lose the V8 Supercar event, are being sounded even before talks begin on its future.
Hamilton will host the V8 event for the last time in April with the owners saying a New Zealand round beyond that is unlikely.
Hamilton City Council lost $37 million on the race over three years, after believing it would bring economic benefits to the city.
Auckland has been floated as a possible successor, but is yet to identify a suitable circuit, or consider the investment needed.
Auckland Events Agency does not expect to begin serious talks with V8 Supercars Australia until the New Year.
