Police have named a Tauranga man who died in suspicious circumstances in the city on Tuesday night.
He was Colin Bidois, aged 50.
A post-mortem has been carried out on Mr Bidois and while police are not releasing the results, they have confirmed they are conducting a homicide investigation.
A 43-year-old man from Tauranga has appeared in court in relation to the death.
The accused has been charged with assault and has been granted interim name suppression until Friday evening.
Police want to talk to anyone who may have been in the Fourth Avenue area between 6pm and 10pm on Tuesday.
