About 1000 more cases of child abuse were reported in the year to June than in the previous year.
Child Youth and Family says it received 150,747 notifications of suspected abuse or concerns about children in the year to June.
Some 22,087 of those reports were substantiated, up from 21,025 confirmed reports the previous year.
Child Youth and Family says there are a range of reasons for the increase, but part of it is due to police notifying the agency every time they attend a domestic violence case and a child is present.
It says if there is violence in the home, even if the child has only witnessed it, there is concern.
