Freedom campers are leaving New Zealand without paying their instant fines.
Legislation was passed in August this year giving councils the power to fine them $200.
But only 33 of the 150 campers fined in Queenstown have actually paid, leaving $30,000 outstanding.
Lakes Environmental says Queenstown Lakes District Council will look to rental companies to recover the fines since they can charge them to customer credit cards.
