Teacher training needed for broadband

The 2020 Communications Trust says it could take 15 years to bring teachers up to speed with ultra-fast broadband technologies in schools.

A report released on Friday by the trust says that while schools are eagerly awaiting the roll out of the government's ultra-fast broadband initiative, they will need help.

To make full use of what the network offers, it says more teacher training and better technical support will be needed.

The trust's chairperson, Laurence Millar, says with the extensive amount of information now instantly available, the teacher's role has changed to one of helping students access, verify, and validate that information.
