Council to release RWC review but withholds reports

More than 150,000 people crammed downtown Auckland for the tournament's opening celebrations on 9 September.

The numbers took organisers by surprise, the commuter rail system was overwhelmed and compensation was given to those who missed the opening ceremony and match at Eden Park.

On Wednesday, Auckland Council will release a report on the city's running of the tournament.

However, for three months the council and the Minister for the Rugby World Cup have refused to release to Radio New Zealand News internal papers relating to the opening night.

The Office of the Ombudsmen is considering Radio New Zealand's complaints about the refusals.
