Police arrest man after racecourse fires

6:27 pm on 19 December 2011

A man has been arrested following a string of fires at the Foxton Racecourse.

A fifth suspicious blaze at the site, about 1am on Sunday, burned down half of the last remaining stable block.

Police say a 35-year-old man has been arrested and charged with five counts of arson.

He is due to appear in the Levin District Court on Wednesday.

In November, four suspicious fires were lit at the racecourse in the space of 10 days.

Those fires extensively damaged a grandstand and another stable building.
