Child pornographer convicted again

A recidivist child pornographer has been convicted again.

Stephen Laing was arrested by the Customs Service and faced 24 charges of exporting child sexual abuse imagery in Waitakere District Court on Thursday.

Customs says Laing was remanded in custody and will appear in court again in May.

It was the fifth time that Laing has been convicted of charges related to child pornography.

In 2008, he was sentenced to five years in jail after pleading guilty to 56 charges, including possessing and distributing pictures of children and babies being sexually abused.

He committed those offences while on bail. Officials who tracked him down said he was the country's worst child pornographer.
