A man accused of stealing more than $6 million from Westpac Bank is to seek bail.
Hui Gao, 30, who prefers to be known as Leo, faces 16 charges of theft and two of money laundering after a $10 million overdraft was mistakenly loaded into his bank account in 2009.
He was arrested in Hong Kong in September and arrived back in New Zealand with detectives on Wednesday.
He appeared before Justices of the Peace in Rotorua District Court on Friday.
He was remanded to reappear on 5 January. Lawyer Ron Mansfield says he will apply for bail. He is yet to enter a plea.
