Traffic on State Highway 1 at Kawakawa is flowing freely again after delays caused by a road crash.
Five people were taken to hospital, one in a critical condition, after the crash.
The other four have moderate injuries.
Police say two cars collided, one ending up in a ditch and the other blocking the southbound lane of the highway.
