Nearly 24,000 people were injured during the last Christmas/New Year holiday period costing the country nearly $11 million.
The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) says the biggest cause of injuries were falls.
Nearly 10,000 people were seriously hurt at home - including on stairs, in badly lit hallways, from tripping over Christmas clutter or falling in and around swimming pools.
Some were also burned using faulty barbecues.
More than 60 were injured loading gear into the car or on the trailer, or lifting their tent down from the attic or garage shelves.
A common injury for people with caravans was falling or straining while hooking the van up to the car.
More than 500 people were hospitalised.
ACC says it's easy to be distracted during this period and simply taking time to notice potential hazards will prevent thousands of injuries and save millions of dollars.
