Retail stores around the country were busy on Monday as people made the most of the Boxing Day sales.
Wellington's Lambton Quay was even busier than normal, as a visiting cruise ship arrived in the capital on Monday morning.
Retailer's Association spokesperson Barry Hellberg says Boxing Day sales are very important for local retailers.
And Mr Hellberg says this year has been a busy one.
He says a large amount of advertising this year has also helped to encourage people into the shops.
The official sales figures will be released on Tuesday.
