Milk tanker and car collide

A car and a milk tanker have collided on SH3 near Sanson, in Manawatu, seriously injuring one person.

The vehicles ended up in ditches on opposite sides of the road following the crash, which occurred at about 8.30am on Wednesday.

The driver of the car suffered critical injuries and is in the intensive care unit at Palmerston North Hospital.

Cranes were being brought in to lift the tanker from the drainage ditch once the milk had been transferred to another tanker.

Traffic was being diverted from the crash site until early afternoon.

Train collision

Three people have escaped with minor injuries after their car collided with a goods train near Lepperton, in Taranaki.

The police say the crash happened at an uncontrolled railway crossing.
