Two men who pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Wanganui toddler Jhia Te Tua have been jailed for seven years.
Tyrone Box, 19, and James Challis, 20, were sentenced at the High Court in Wellington on charges of manslaughter and being part of an organised criminal group.
The men had pleaded guilty to the charges during a depositions hearing earlier this year.
They were in the car from which it is alleged the shots were fired that killed the child in May last year.
In sentencing, Justice Gendall described events surrounding the shooting as "macho posturing by thugs".
He said both men showed limited remorse for what happened, and imposed a minimum non-parole period of four years on both men.
Justice Gendall also sentenced them to two years jail, to be served concurrently, for part of an organised criminal group.
