Arrests after assault during burglary

12:12 pm on 29 December 2011

Three people have been arrested and charged with burglary and aggravated wounding following an assault on Monday which left a Hamilton man in Waikato hospital with serious head injuries.

Police say they were called to a North Hamilton address after neighbours reported a disturbance.

They say it appears the householder, 75, disturbed three people trying to burgle his garage and was struck over the head with a set of bolt-cutters.

Members of the public stopped one suspect leaving, while the other two were tracked to a nearby property by a police dog.

A man, 22, a boy, 14, and a girl, 16, are due to appear in the Hamilton District Court on Friday in relation to the incident.
