All major Bay of Plenty roads reopen after flooding

8:32 pm on 2 January 2012

State highways and key roads forced to close in the Bay of Plenty due to flooding and slips have now all reopened.

The region has been through a battering in the past few days but the weather has now eased.

The Whakatane District Council says all major thoroughfares in the district are open to motorists once more.

It says a few roads are still closed due to minor slips and flooding but alternative routes are available.

And the Transport Agency says all highways that were also closed due to flooding in the Bay of Plenty have reopened too.

The region has been inundated with up to 300 millimetres of rain since Thursday.

MetService says showers, some heavy, will continue to fall in the Bay of Plenty on Monday, especially about the ranges.

Drier conditions are expected on Tuesday.
