Wellington police have found a body they believe to be a missing 40-year-old man.
Officers and Land Search and Rescue volunteers had been searching for Vaughn Solomon from the Porirua suburb of Whitby since Tuesday.
On Wednesday morning, they found a man's body in the Smiths Creek area of the Lower Tararua ranges.
Police say Mr Solomon intended to go for a walk on the Puffer Track into the Tauherenikau Valley, but did not return home as expected on Monday night.
Acting Sergeant Anthony Harmer says the body had not been formally identified, but Mr Solomon's family had been informed.
Mr Solomon's family has asked that media respect their privacy.
